Q&A #239 - Hypostatic Union, Communion, Does God Hate, and More!

Mar 23, 2022    Kyle Toner, Doug Phaneuf, Blake Hardy

Pastors Doug, Blake, and Kyle return as a team to discuss the following:

1. Last week (maybe the week before?) there was a question around the idea that Jesus may not have been as poor as we often all assume He was. I can’t remember if this was his theory or something he read, but I believe it was Kyle who brought up the fact that there may be some credence to the wealth theory because it would have cost a lot for Jesus to be as well educated as He obviously was.
Then on Sunday Doug threw out the idea that Jesus may not have known that Judas would betray Him when He chose him as a disciple.
The idea that the son of God needed an education or didn’t know things is weird to me but the idea of Jesus being born as a walking/talking baby thus requiring no education is equally (if not disturbingly more) weird.
I don’t know that I have a specific question but I’d love to hear each of your thoughts around the idea of the hypostatic union and what you think Jesus knew or didn’t know about the future, the world around Him and…well… everything.
Thanks,

2. Why do we in the modern church practice communion or Eucharist (which is sometimes more liturgical at some churches)? It seems it's really to remember corporately that Jesus died and was resurrected and that we "do this in remembrance of me". If that is the main reason, isn't remembrance of that fact central to the Christian faith and part of everything we do,
Which makes a 5 minute segment on the first Sunday of the month with bland wafers and a shot of grape juice, making it seem kind of insignificant, ironically? It seems to me that we should be focussing more on having shared meals with our church community?

3. Why does Malachi quote God as saying He hates Esau? Does God “hate” people? Mal 1:3
