Q&A #210: Conspiracy theories, Climate change, Evangelizing, and the Fig tree
Q&A #210: Pastors Doug, and Blake discuss the following:
1. Why is it that conspiracy theories such as Q-Anon, the Big Lie, and anti-vaxx rhetoric have found such a strong following among evangelical churches and communities?
2. What is the churches stance on climate change? Do Christians have an obligation to care for the environment the same way they are called to care for each other?
3. is it ethical for Christians to evangelize uncontacted communities in places like the Amazon, Papua New Guinea, or Indonesia? Even if that could be illegal or damaging to their safety and way of life?
4. I'm not sure what to do with the story of Jesus cursing the fig tree (Mark 11). It came up in the readings for the devos with pastor Doug, It's always been a sticking point with me that i've never dug down into. It seems almost petty to curse the tree for not having figs "because it was not the season for figs (NIV)" I understand Jesus is human, so do i just understand it as an expression of emotion? Because i'd definitely kick a tree that didn't have fruit if I was hungry enough, even if it was January.
5. Why did Jesus curse the Fig tree that didn't produce figs because it wasn't in season? Was this just a case of Jesus being Hangry, or was their a lesson in it? How are we to interpret that for our own lives?
